Your house should be as unique as you are, and the kitchen is no exception. There are endless creative ways to customize your kitchen to reflect your style while meeting your needs perfectly. If you’re planning a kitchen renovation and are looking for some inspiration, consider one of these fun and unique kitchen design ideas.
- Make your refrigerator pop with peel-and-stick wallpaper. The fridge is one of the biggest features in the kitchen, but often they are quite drab in matte white or black. Instead of dealing with this eyesore, you can turn it into an eye-catching piece of decor by covering it with peel-and-stick wallpaper. Whether you prefer a solid color or a design that pops, you’ll find a style that suits your kitchen. And if you end up not liking it, the paper is easily removed.
- Hanging mug racks. Coffee mugs aren’t easily stackable, and their shape and handles mean that they take up a considerable amount of space in your cabinets. If you’ve got an extensive mug collection, why hide it? Incorporate your mugs into your kitchen’s decor with a hanging mug rack. There are many ways to do this: you can buy one and make one yourself out of pallet wood or metal piping. If you have a good amount of space underneath your overhead cabinets, you can screw cup hooks into the underside and hang your mugs there for a quick and easy mug display.
- Built-in features. Step stools are quite useful in kitchens for reaching those dishes on the top shelf or allowing your kids to help prep a meal. However, they can be bulky to store and annoying to fetch every time you need them. Instead, consider having a fold-out step stool built into your lower cabinets. Or, try a built-in cutting board. These come in a few different versions–some are installed into the lower cabinets and pull out, which allows you to hold a bowl below it to move your chopped items or a trash bin to collect scraps. Others are built as a permanent part of the countertop itself right next to your sink so that you can push scraps directly into the garbage disposal.
- Round windows. There is something quite charming about a round window, and it immediately catches the eye as a unique element in any room. They fit into various styles–smaller ones create an almost porthole-esque appearance for a beachy or nautical-inspired kitchen design, while larger windows have a more modern aesthetic. Including muntins on the window gives it a more cottage-like vibe. Have one installed above your kitchen sink or at a focal point in the exterior wall to let in natural light in a stylish way.
- Central vacuum and kick plate. A central vacuum can be life-changing. It is a system installed throughout your home so that you can quickly and easily access a vacuum tube. In the kitchen, it can be quite a timesaver. You can quickly sweep up crumbs (or just push them with your foot if you don’t feel like grabbing a broom) and dispose of them into the vacuum system via a kick plate installed underneath your cabinetry.
